Florida Spring

The orange trees
The grapefruit trees
The tangerine trees
The lime trees
The lemon trees
Are all in bloom
The bees
Take a pollen shower
As the creation
Sits and sings
Above the cradle of spring

Heaven

We pray to sing with the angels and ride on the wind
To live in the grace of God’s abiding presence
To know peace as we believe that we are one
And delight in the joy of freely living
To see that there is only love

This is our prayer; that we will know heaven
And sing the song of life heard in our hearts
Riding on the winds of peace as they blow across the world telling of another way
We have always lived in the grace of God’s abiding presence
Our spirit filled with the joy of being free
Illuminated in the radiance of God for we are part of the Eternal light
There is only love

We reach for heaven and trust that one day we will see we have arrived.

Understanding Gratitude

"The hardest arithmetic to master is
that which enables us to count our blessings."

-Eric Hoffer

According to legend, a young man while roaming the desert came across a spring of delicious crystal-clear water. The water was so sweet he filled his leather canteen so he could bring some back to a tribal elder who had been his teacher. After a four-day journey he presented the water to the old man who took a deep drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student lavishly for the sweet water. The young man returned to his village with a happy heart.

Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out, saying it was awful. It apparently had become stale because of the old leather container. The student challenged his teacher: "Master, the water was foul. Why did you pretend to like it?"

The teacher replied, "You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was simply the container for an act of living-kindness and nothing could be sweeter."

Self-motivation without gratitude is impossible. Our energy is "sapped" when our entire focus is on what's wrong instead of what is right with our lives. One of our greatest challenges is to live and love in spite of pain and disappointment...to find gratitude in the midst of it all.

Reflect for a moment on this beautiful quote from Melody Beattie:

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."

Where Will The Marshes Go?
Where will the marshes go
When the glaciers melt
And the water s rise
Inch by inch by inch

Where will the marshes go
They cannot cut
Their anchors
And cast off
For other shores

Where will the marshes go
When the snow packs wither
And the waters rise
Ankle deep … knee deep
Thigh deep … who knows

Where will the marshes go
The land has been hardened
By human footprints
For so long
The marshes cannot
Migrate inland as of old.

Where will the marshes go
And all that lives
In that wondrous
Cradle of nourishment

Where will the marshes go

Where will we go?

ADVENT

When planting time
Is over
When the harvest
Has been stored
When the fields
Are covered
With frozen stubble
God the seed is planted.

When the aroma of spring
Is long gone
When the flowers of summer
Have lost their bright petals
When all growing things
Have been pruned
God the rose begins to grow.

When the delicate egg shells of new life
Lie scattered on the ground
When the fledglings
Have all learned to fly
When the proud parents
Have all flown south
God the feathered wing hovers over frozen snow.

No temple is so sullied
that it cannot be cleaned

No life is so wretched
that it cannot refect the purity of the Divine Light

And no heart is ever so draped in darkness
that it cannot touch others with the blessing of pure unselfish love

These transformations require only
the will to succeed and a certain amount of effort

The Dedicated Life

O man of Earth! canst thou say
I am ready, God;
I dedicated my life to Thee?
Use my life as Thou wouldst see,
A benefit that it shall be
To my fellowman.

May my eyes see for Thee
The pain expressed in the urchin's face,
Distress upon the wayward's brow.
Use my feet O Father God,
That I may walk in paths on Earth
As thou wouldst have me walk,
That I may carry
Thy message of Light,Thy message of Life,
To man  who darkness dwells.
Use my hands, O Father God,
To reach to them who need Thy help,
To bestow Thy blessings and to receive
Only that, O Lord of Hosts! only that
Which comes from Thee
Take my life and let it be
Dedicated unto Thee."
